Write a Blog Post - get an A!

Let's just dive into my favorite blogging tips:

1. Give people an incentive to read! You may have to give things away (like idk- a downloadable copy of your shopping budget) or include a ton of informative pictures so readers can be captivated and want to stick around!

2. Quirky or funny headlines- they work. Follow it up with an engaging introduction. Try to get a keyword in your headline to help Google pick up your article.

What if you’re not a strong writer?

The best tips I can give you are:

  • Be conversational - write like you’re talking directly to someone. Explain things in simple terms and try not to use unnecessarily formal language or slang that not everyone understands

  • Be consistent- have a friend look over you writing to make sure you’re not making spelling or grammar mistakes, and write with personality

  • Tell a story! - Tell your reader why you’re writing these posts. No, not because Ms. Aguilar is making you! Write about how we learn all of these cool new tech tools and now we get to help our community by blogging about fashion so people shop at Grace Bridge Resale! They’re a non-profit organization that shares their proceeds a food bank, eye care clinics and disaster relief funds!

  • Know what matters- put yourself in the reader’s shoes. Most people will be checking out your blog to get style tips and learn how to buy on a budget. Review some other local Dallas or Frisco area fashion blogs. This will give you a good sense of what people in the area are interested in reading.

  • Focus on the benefits- talk specifically about the benefits of the thrift store. This is why it would be a good idea to visit :)

Formatting for the Web

Without getting too technical, this is what I expect from your blog posts (because this is how blogs are done :) not because I’m picky!)

Format so that it’s easy to read. How?

  • Avoid long blocks of text

  • Use bullet points instead of listing things in sentences

  • Add space or change text size to emphasize points

  • Bold or underline important phrases

Don’t hide important things in the middle of a long paragraph. Use key phrases to answer questions quickly!

Use similar formatting on all your product descriptions or links to sources. As always, summarize your main points at the end of post just in case someone skimmed to the very end.

Notice all the hyperlinks? By linking out to different sources- you actually help search engines like Google categorize you and move you up in search results!

End with a CALL TO ACTION - (tell people what to do next) an example: Visit Grace Bridge Resale in Frisco Monday-Friday: 10am-8pm or Saturday: 9am-6pm. Even better, use an eye catching photo and link out to a source.

Grace Bridge Resale Frisco Open Mon-Sat. Happy thrifting!
